Cinema 4D Tardis

Description

I’m currently learning Cinema 4D at work, a 3D design program that lets you build, paint and render detailed models of anything that you want. To get to grips with the software (I have very little knowledge of 3D modelling so far!) I thought that I would make something enjoyable and familiar to see if I could get my head around the various tools and texturing methods that the software allows you to use. I built the Tardis above using Booleans and Hypernurbs, made the textures in Photoshop and rendered them in an HDRI environment that I built using the Global Illumination plug in to get a nice, almost realistic lighting effect. I’m sure any hardcore Doctor Who fans will spot a few mistakes or inaccuracies, I’m still learning and this isn’t meant to be an “accurate” representation. It’s a bit of fun and a handy learning excercise in 3D modelling.

Fellow geeks will know that this is based on the Matt Smith Tardis, some of the details hark back to the first ever on screen Tardis that was used during William Hartnell’s era. I might have a go at a few other versions as I learn new tricks and techniques. Colin Baker’s “beat up” old Tardis has always been one of my personal favourites!
